When one steps foot on Penang Island, known as "The
Pearl Of The Orient", it is hard not to fall
in love with her at first sight. With her jungle-covered
hills, sandy beaches and cross-cultural heritage,
communities and traditions - there is something
to interest everyone.
From the time Captain Francis Light (1740-1794)
established Britain's trading post in Penang, settlers
from all over the world made Penang, especially
Georgetown, their home. Their presence is seen and
felt strongly in the diverse architecture, places
of worship, food and historic monuments around the
Island.
Modernisation is inevitable and the Penang State
Government is attempting to ensure that Georgetown's
heritage city and cultural environment survive this
transition. There are two "American Express
Heritage" trails, which you can explore on
foot or by trishaw.
And these trails begin at the E&O – Lone Pine’s
sister hotel's very own doorstep. |
